The basic Buick warranty is a bumper to bumper warranty that covers your vehicle against defects in materials and workmanship. The original warranty on most Buick vehicles is for three years or 36,000 miles and does not include any kind of powertrain extended warranty. In an effort to improve brand perception, Buick decided to increase the basic coverage for 2006 model vehicles to 4 years or 50,000 miles. This puts Buick's warranty in line with other highline competitors.

A Buick warranty is only as could as your ability to appropriately maintain your vehicle. This is why it is so important to keep receipts of any scheduled maintenance you regularly perform. Outlined in your owner's manual is a maintenance schedule both for "normal" and "severe" use. Severe uses consists of a lot of stop and go driving, usually driving for only short trips, operating your vehicle on poor road conditions, living in a hot climate, mountain driving, or towing. Everything else is considered "normal." Buick will usually not deny a warranty claim due to a lack of proof of maintenance; however, if a lack of maintenance can be proven to be the cause of a failure, Buick can deny you coverage.
To ensure that Buick reimburses you for warranty repairs, you must bring your vehicle to a franchised Buick dealership except in the case of an emergency. Keep in mind that just because a component is repaired does not mean it is a brand new part. When it comes to major components, often times, repairs only require a minimal replacement of a smaller inner part that quite possibly could be used, refurbished or new.
To fully understand the limitations of your Buick warranty, thoroughly read through the documentation provided with your vehicle. While it is common for people to add aftermarket components to their vehicles, such as alarms, radios or remote starters, the addition of these components could result in a normally covered component being no longer covered, especially if the aftermarket part is proven to cause the failure of the part under warranty.
You may want to consider a factory backed plan. Factory backed warranties are usually more expensive then those from independant providers and your choices of repair facility may be limited. A good source for a Buick
extended warranty is www.gm-auto-mall.com. Compare our pricing with GM backed plans. |
