The original Hyundai warranty is a limited warranty that covers your vehicle for five years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first) against defects in materials and workmanship which occur under normal use. However, there are exclusions to this warranty that are covered for less than 5 years. The basic Hyundai warranty also includes an extended powertrain warranty, for ten years or 100,000 miles, limited to the engine, transaxle and transmission. The extended portion of the warranty is only valid for the original owner and cannot be transferred to subsequent owners.

You are required to perform regular maintenance on your Hyundai to keep the warranty in force. It is your responsibility to check such items as fluid levels and tire pressure regularly. Warranty claims can be denied, if a lack of maintenance is thought to be the cause of the failure. You should retain proof, such as your receipts, that the scheduled inspections and maintenance have been performed. Hyundai has two maintenance schedules, one for normal driving conditions and one for “severe” driving conditions. More frequent maintenance is required under the “severe” schedule. You should check your owner’s manual to see which schedule is right for you.
While under the original warranty, you must have repairs made at a franchised Hyundai dealership. If no Hyundai dealership is available when a breakdown occurs, you could have minor repairs on your Hyundai performed by an independent repair facility and submit a claim to Hyundai Motor America.
Be careful when considering adding any aftermarket items to you car. Aftermarket performance enhancing accessories can be the reason for denial of coverage for major components, such as your engine and transmission. Even common accessories, such as an aftermarket sound system, alarm and remote starter, can cause problems with your vehicle. Any damage that they may cause will not be covered by Hyundai.
