The Toyota original warranty includes coverage for flaws in materials and/or workmanship for 3 years or 36,000 miles (whichever comes first) under normal driving conditions. The powertrain is covered under an extended warranty for 5 years or 60,000 miles. If the vehicle is financed for 48, 60 or 84 months, the owner could be left with many months of out of pocket repair costs.

It is critical that you maintain detailed records of your service history in order to keep your warranty in force. A written record or collected receipts of service are the best way to document the maintenance of the vehicle. If Toyota is convinced that the needed repair is due to lack of maintenance, they could deny coverage. Your Toyota manual will outline the exact service schedule recommended for your usage. If you drive under "severe" conditions such as frequent stop and go driving, continual hot climate or mountain driving, extreme road conditions or towing, you will need more frequent servicing. Read your manual to protect your claim to warranty coverage.
When your car needs repair, Toyota requires you contract with a licensed Toyota service provider. In an emergency situation or when you are unable to locate a Toyota dealership, repairs may still be covered under your warranty. Check your manual before you agree to the repairs needed.
Beware of the savings you think you are getting on aftermarket parts. Toyota will not cover aftermarket components. A warranty claim could also be denied if Toyota can prove that the addition of an aftermarket component caused a vehicle failure. Review your manual before adding aftermarket parts to your Toyota.
