The warranty on your new VW covers defects in materials and workmanship for four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. The powertrain is covered with an extended warranty for 5 years or 60,000 miles. If the vehicle is financed for over 60 months, the consumer may be responsible for repair costs well beyond the life of the warranty.

Documentation of regular scheduled vehicle maintenance is important in keeping your warranty valid. If VW assesses that vehicle failure is caused by inadequate maintenance, they may deny coverage. Thorough review of the manual's recommendations for service will give you the choice of two service schedules: "normal" or "severe". Severe driving conditions such as using the vehicle exclusively for short trips, mountain driving, towing or driving in weather extremes will demand more frequent servicing.
VW requires that all repairs be completed by authorized VW service providers. Replacement components used by the repair facility include new, reconditioned and used parts, this falls within the industry standard. Should your vehicle fail in an area without a VW dealership, repairs may be covered by your warranty. Check your manual for clarity before committing to the repair.
Aftermarket components and parts are not covered by the VW warranty. Also, a component that might have been covered by the warranty may not be covered if it can be shown that an aftermarket part was responsible for the vehicle failure. Review the warranty information in the manual to determine if an aftermarket component, such as a stereo or alarm system, could affect your warranty.
