If the vehicle is financed, the life of the warranty may fall short of the vehicle's drive life. This is especially true for loan terms longer than 60 months. Volvo does not come with any kind of extended powertrain warranty. Once the original warranty is over, you are on your own. Consider this... Volvo warranties are geared toward the low mileage driver. At 15,000 miles a year, you are only covered for 3 and a half years. At 20,000 or more, your warranty will be in force closer to two years. Volvo Warranty and Maintenance It is of primary importance that you keep excellent records of your Volvo's service history. Volvo may not provide warranty coverage if they can prove that a vehicle failure is due to neglecting the service schedule. Your manual will describe two types of service recommendations depending on the use of your car, "normal" and "severe". Be sure to identify which describes your driving pattern best and then follow the schedule. If your car falls into the "severe" driving category, it will require more frequent servicing. "Severe" conditions include: frequent stop and go driving, rough terrain driving, extreme hot or cold driving conditions, mountainous driving or towing. Volvo Warranty Repairs Repairs covered under your warranty must be provided by an authorized Volvo repair facility. Under the warranty, Volvo may use reconditioned, remanufactured or new parts and components. In an emergency, repairs may be covered by a provider other than a Volvo franchisee. Check your manual for specifics before you approve the repair. Aftermarket Parts Your Volvo warranty does not provide coverage for aftermarket parts or components. If Volvo can prove that an aftermarket part malfunction is responsible for a component that would have been covered under the original warranty, they may also deny coverage. Read your manual to fully understand any potential exclusion in the warranty before your install and aftermarket component.
